Afternoon Tea @ The Deck Cardiff

What do you like to do on your birthday? I couldn’t think of anything better than relaxing with your friends/family for the day and eating lovely food.

Afternoon tea is one of my favourite things to do so what better way to spend my 26th birthday than to eat lots of lovely treats with Will, my parents and Freddie! (Josh was in school sorry little man) I went shopping in the morning with Will and then we headed down and met my parents at The Deck down Cardiff Bay. I had heard so many lovely things and I was so excited as I had never been there before. Will told me that when he used to work down there he always used to go in and get food and it was always lovely.

I absolutely loved this sign in the toilet the decor was just beautiful and my complete idea of heaven!

If I was ever to own a cafe then it would be one completely like this. As soon as I walked in and got showed around I was in love and I wish I could decorate my house like it. Vintage decorations are my ideal of heaven.

As you step inside you are told to pick a cupcake each for your afternoon tea and the choices are ridiculously good.

You can choose from Nutella, Salted Caramel, Toblerone, Battenburg, Cherry Chocolate, Ferraro Roche, Vanilla Custard, Malteaser, Apple Pie and Custard, French Fancy, Twix, Raspberry Ruffle, Blackberry White Chocolate, Oreo, Toffifee and even more. Look at the amazing brownie stacked cake I got as a birthday treat too! They tasted delicious and so much effort has gone in to each and every one. The lady makes them all herself and she is very talented, you should see the wedding cakes she makes! I know where I will be going if I ever need one!

You are then taken down stairs to a beautifully decorated room full of vintage loveliness. The tea, coffee and lattes were then delivered to our table followed shortly by the afternoon tea.

The afternoon tea consisted of four types of traditional finger sandwiches – egg mayo, brie and cranberry,  and ham, cheese and cucumber all on a mix of fresh brown and white bread. A cupcake of your choice from their daily bakes, two scones with lashings of jam and clotted cream, fresh fruit, and two chunks of chocolate brownie. It was all served on original vintage bone china to top of the vintage theme.

How adorable is this basket filled with snuggle blankets? Such a cute touch.

Between the four of us (well five as Freddie loves his food!) we were all so full and had loads left over which we got to take home with us in beautiful little boxes.

We were also given jugs of water with glass bottles and red and white paper straws to drink from – again adding to the vintage theme perfectly.

Trying to get a family photo didn’t go to plan as you can see. I did try and take some more after but Freddie was covered in the food as he dived straight in!

I love all the quirky glasses and accessories, the funny hanging signs and all the pretty bunting. They don’t have a lift which is a bit of a nightmare, but they are very helpful and offered help when carrying it down the stairs. I love that all the seats are a different pastel colour as those types of colours are my complete favourite. They also have highchairs for the little ones so they can tuck in too.

I honestly had such an amazing birthday with my closest family (other than Josh obviously but he was in school!) I highly reccomend paying The Deck a visit, the staff, the owner and the food is incredible. It is decorated beautifully and has such a lovely atmosphere. Since I have been and told everyone about my visit to The Deck, lots of my friends have been and completely agreed with me! Visit their website here and go over and pay them a visit you won’t regret it.

‘Dear Parents
You don’t need to ask us if you can breastfeed, feed your children their own food or even apologise for mess on the floor…we are a family business and if we can do anything to assist you when you visit all you need to do is ask’

I love how down to earth and lovely they are at The Deck, most places wouldn’t dare let you eat your own food at their restaurant. Also the amount of looks I get when Freddie has food and makes a mess all over the floor when I go to food places I would get millions if I got a pound for every stare!

I was given this afternoon tea in exchange for this review but all opinions are 100% honest. (it was super lovely!)
